Discover the behind-the-scenes restoration of the Manoir du Boberil. Usually closed to the public, it will be exceptionally open to visitors during the European Heritage Days.
The Manoir du Boberil is the town of Hermitage, located 15 km from Rennes, and dates from the 14th century.
In restoration work, the site will stop for a weekend to allow visitors to discover its site, its history and the trades and know-how implemented as part of its restoration.
This year, come discover the Boberil manor like you’ve never seen before!
Under construction for nearly five years, the restoration of the building is coming to an end and the mansion will be in its finest appearance.
Discover the restoration work thanks to animations!
Studio Sherlock, the audiovisual production agency specialized in the valorization of architectural heritage and restoration sites of historic monuments, and which has been following the Manoir’s restoration project for nearly five years, offers you an installation route during these two exceptional days of visits:
Video Screenings:
Enjoy a documentary triptych recounting the many stages of the restoration of this Breton jewel:

  • Screening of the film presenting the Manoir’s restoration project and the archaeological discoveries made there.
  • Projection of the film depicting masonry work, carried out using ancient and local raw earth techniques such as bauge.
  • Screening of the film tracing the work and know-how used during the restoration of the roof - frames and cover of the Manoir.
For this 2022 edition, a final part will be unveiled! This fourth film will present the restoration work of the Manor’s entrance chapter. It is a structural work, in carved oak wood, and is one of the few chapters still in place in Brittany. Its function, which is not only to protect from the rain, will be unveiled in the film!
The chapter’s base on the site marks the end of nearly five years of exterior restoration work on the building.
"But then, is it the end?" Well not so fast!
Surrounding the Boberil manor house, many old buildings have emerged over the centuries. Dovecote, bread oven, well or barn its as many works "memory" of the life of this ancient site. Always standing but sometimes in poor condition, the plan of their owner is to restore them.
The film also addresses the new archaeological research carried out in 2021 by INRAP on the Boberil domain, which made it possible to find the trace of the old moat.
    The adventure is not over!
    Photo exhibition:
  • Documentation of the work, materials, trades and know-how implemented during the restoration work of the Manoir.
    3D Space:
Advanced technologies and heritage go hand in hand! We put at your disposal a space entirely dedicated to the discovery of the manor through the ages! This set is entirely designed on the basis of the archaeological discoveries carried out on the manor.
  • A 3D video projection enriched with comments will allow you to go back in time to discover the different architectural changes of the Manor throughout the ages, from the 14th century until the completion of its restoration.
  • A giant architectural model, entirely made using the 3D printing process, will allow you to travel through the centuries and discover, in the smallest details, the building as it was presented in the 16th century at its peak.
  • Based on archaeological data, it was assembled and hand-painted using numerical modelling.
    Sound Installation:
