The exhibition Portrait in painting in Brittany reveals various approaches to portrait art under the brush and pencil of artists who have worked in Brittany at a pivotal period in the history of art in France: from simple anonymous, to names better known to mention only Pierre Dupuis, Alfred Guillou, Charles Cottet, Henri Guinier, Élisabeth Sonrel, Edgard Maxence and Jeanne-Marie Barbey, those from the Pont-Aven school, such as Émile Bernard, Paul Sérusier, Henri Delavallée and Émile Jourdan. These portraits, of painters, men, women and children, famous or not, staged on a neutral or decorative background, or with an interior or landscape as a background, reveal, beyond the aesthetic research of the work, the psychological analysis of the model.
