Discover the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
At 10:30 am, Pol Vendeville (Chroniques Conseil) will present a lecture on the history of the Church of Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul from the 15th century to the present day at the Alizé, allowing us to better understand the evolution of the present building over the different eras.
Guipavas has known no less than three Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul churches over the years.
The current church built on the plans of architects Yves Michel and Yves Perrin known notably to be at the origin of the new church Saint-Louis de Brest. Built between 1952 and 1955, the church of Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul de Guipavas is the result of the works that preceded it. From the first church, it preserves the north porch inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1926, but also several doors and bays. From the nineteenth-century church, the new church has retained roughly the dimensions and location. After an intense reflection and the proposal of several projects, it is finally a resolutely modern construction that sees the light of day. It is fully within the context of the reconstruction during which the sacred architecture is undergoing a strong renewal. Modern in form and materials, the parish church of Guipavas, however, gives pride of place to local materials: masonry of rubble and ashlar, schist or Logonna stone siding.
Delivered with transparent cathedral glasses, the church is completed by the installation of the stained glass windows of the Guével workshop between 1986 and 1989. These stained glass windows were designed to accompany the liturgical discourse and to change the atmosphere of the church in relation to the daily running of the sun.
