About the location

Église Sainte-Bernadette de Nevers
29-31 rue Claude-Parent 58000 Nevers
  • Nièvre
  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
Realised in 1966 in the district of Banlay then under construction, this church manifests the episcopal will to mark this peripheral space by appealing to big(great) architects. Project is led by Paul Virilio and Claude relative, inventor of slanting function(office) " in architecture. The church articulates(is expressed) around both inclined planes of the nave sheltered by two concrete(watertight) half hulls(shells). The expression of the porte-à-faux is obvious at the level of the facade and of the back, where the importance of the overhang creates an impression(printing) of imbalance. This instability joined(contacted) for the raw(gross) concrete makes from the outside a not very hospitable(hospital) place which contrasts with the softness of curves and of light of the cup-shaped nave." It is a very calculated church where nothing is left with chance. []. This breast-plate, terrible place, the threshold of which is difficult to cross(exceed), opens on a protective internal space". (Claude relative)
