The museum bears the name of the family that bequeathed to the town of Arbois, in 1902, its private mansion as well as its furniture and collections of objects (exceptional porcelain and silverware) and works of art (paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, including the Courbet and Pointelin Comtois). After the death in 1931 of Madame de Sarret who had kept the enjoyment of the house, the museum opened in 1934.
These works reflect the enlightened tastes of several generations of a family belonging to the provincial aristocracy, whose apartments have retained their interior decoration.
The portrait of Arboisiens drawn in pastel by teenage Louis Pasteur are also exhibited.
Continue your visit with the temporary exhibition "Docteur Microbe et Mister Virus: la Pasteur Attitude" to learn more about pathogenic microbes fought by hygiene, vaccination and antibiotics.
