This tower, which was part of the city’s first fortified enclosure, has a long history. It was built in the 14th century during the Hundred Years' War and used for various purposes, including defense, prison, town hall, court of justice. The construction of a second enclosure lost all defensive interest in the first enclosure containing the castle and the church. The Tower and its adjoining parts were thus left to the abandonment by the various landlord Lords. It has been restored over the centuries. The current municipality recently installed a new lantern at the top of the building.
