Opened in 1951, after work largely conducted and funded by its parishioners. The building is in line with the churches of the post-war period, marked by the renewal of sacred art. It is signed by four big names: Maurice Novarina, Jean Bazaine, Jean Le Moal and Fernand Léger.

The parish of Sacré-Cœur in Audincourt was created in 1946 in a working class district, whose development followed the growth of the automobile industry. The parish priest of the new parish, Abbé Louis Prenel, was at the origin of the construction of the new church. He asked Maurice Novarina, author of the church of Assy, for the plans. The work financed by quests, donations, loans and partly carried out by the parishioners, lasted from 1949 to 1951\. The church has been listed as a historical monument since April 30, 1996\. This post-war place of worship symbolizes the expectations of Christians and artists between minimalist architecture, pacifist utopia and sacred art. Each style of stained glass window expresses the originality of the artists, while being designed to give volume and serenity to the building. The baptistery perfectly reflects these considerations with the stained glass window of Jean Bazaine, and the baptismal vat simply carved in a block of stone.
