The Tower 41 built between 1687 and 1698 is part of the defense system designed by Vauban.
Today, the museum offers a didactic and chronological reading of the artistic currents within its walls.
A space is also dedicated to the sculptor Camille Lefèvre who donated his studio collection and collection to the City of Belfort.
One section is currently devoted to sculpture and another to photographer André Villers.

Tower 41 was erected between 1687 and 1703 by Vauban to strengthen the site, the new frontier of the kingdom of France. It is a bastioned tower, that is to say a pentagonal tower projecting on the enclosure, with firing chambers allowing to defend the surroundings and to cross the angles of view. The national interest of the fortifications of Belfort made possible their classification as Historical Monuments. In this setting left by Vauban, restored in 2019, the Museum of Fine Arts offers a didactic and chronological reading of the artistic currents present within its walls. The Fine Arts collection of the Museums of Belfort includes about 6,900 works of art illustrating the late 15th century painting and engraving in France, Spain and Germany; the 17th century religious art through Rubens and Pourbus; the artistic changes of the nineteenth century: open-air landscape, modernization of expression in the painted portrait and sculpture.
