The Vertical Observatory Exhibition
It is on these permanences and this history that the project of the Vertical Observatory was born and through a meeting with the designer Raphaël Campagnari of Made In Les Ateliers.
Buffon creates its garden from 1734 on the remains of the castle of the Dukes of Burgundy. He made Montbard an exceptional botanical, horticultural, agronomic and forestry experimental site. To this abundant and exceptional botanical diversity is added a perpetual search for new cultural techniques and understanding of the plant world.
The principle is to install functional sculptures in the Buffon Park for three years, called «A-TYPO». The sculptures are associated with a vegetal palette of climbing plants, the closest to those that Buffon had been able to acclimatize in the eighteenth century. It is a real survey that Raphaël Campagnari conducts among nurserymen to try to find the original or approaching species.
The prototypes of the sculptures for the future garden were first tested in plasma cutting at the Eugène Guillaume de Montbard technical school and for others by the company CRAI de Semur en Auxois. Tanks placed in height and connected to the plantations, allow autonomy in water for the summer months.
