The Bronze Age (2300-800 BCE) is a long period during which the European population gradually discovered and mastered the metallurgy of bronze (alloy of copper and tin). Many bronze objects were discovered buried in piles in the earth, on the banks, or even in streams, whole or voluntarily broken.
The exhibition "Swords for the Saône?" present, thanks to the analysis of these repositories, this little known period of history during which these highly hierarchical populations will develop networks of exchange and influence on a European scale. Thanks to the rich collections of the museum and the generous loans of 25 public and private collections, the exhibition presents more than 300 objects or sets of objects found mainly in the water. Among these objects of prestige and everyday life, found in the Saône, but also the Rhine, the Seine, the Loire, the alpine lakes or the marshes, will be exhibited exceptional objects such as the cuirass of Véria (Jura) and Saint-Germain-du-Plain (Saône-et-Loire) and the swords, helmet, bracelet and sickle of the port of Ferrier (Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône-et-Loire).

The Denon Museum is a museum of French municipal art inaugurated in 1866, located in Chalon-sur-Saône in Saône-et-Loire. The museum bears this name in homage to Dominique-Vivant Denon, a French cartoonist, engraver, writer, diplomat and administrator, considered a great precursor of museology, art history and Egyptology.
