«Transmitting the wealth of our heritage» Our village of Mailly-le-Château offers an exceptional panorama of the valley with the Yonne and the Canal du Nivernais. A route full of stories: Neolithic, Gallo-Roman period, splendour of the Middle Ages, until the industrial revolution. We’ll take the oldest bridge in the department to go from one bank to the other. Then we will discuss the activities related to the river through time, such as that of the flotation of wood intended for Parisians. It is with the increase of this activity that the construction of the Canal du Nivernais will be decided: yet another story. Guided tour proposed by the Association des Amis du Pays de Mailly-le Château in partnership with the Friends of the Canal du Nivernais.
