Rudel du Miral, a Freemason born in Chauriat on September 20, 1719, is famous for having been among those who voted for the death of Louis XVI. In 1792 the electoral assembly of the department appointed him Deputy to the Convention. In Year IV he presided over the electoral body of the Convention as eldest of age. Its house decorated with Masonic symbols, with remarkable 18th century woodwork and ornaments, now houses the Town Hall.
