Guided tour of the remains of the Fort of Montmélian
The privileged position of Montmélian explains the implantation and very old development of its fortress. From the Middle Ages to the Modern Era, the castle and then the fort underwent many seats. The House of Savoy continues to transform and adapt the site, establishing Montmélian as one of the major strongholds of Europe. The visit begins in the chapel of the Trinity, with the presentation of a model of the citadel, made by the artist Isabelle Fournier as part of the exhibition "Dukes of the Alps, the theatre of princes, 1559-1697" proposed by the team of the Departmental Conservation of the heritage of Savoie in 2019. The route continues on the site of the remains to understand the strategic position of the fort and admire the exceptional point of view.
