Guided tour of the exhibition "Marchialy, open book" by stage designer Mathilde Gullaud
Since 1990, Graphic Design Month has become an international professional event offering exhibitions and awareness-raising activities in Échirolles and the surrounding area.
The creation of the TRACé marks a new turning point and proposes to put graphic art within the reach of all: the 1st Graphic Design Biennial succeeds the Graphic Design Month and gives you an appointment from June 21 to October 30, 2022.
Each of the 3 buildings making up LE TRACé will therefore be invested by different artists or collectives, with the central theme: «SCENOGRAPHY THE EXHIBITION».
At the Geo-Charles Museum, the Marchialy publishing house will be in the spotlight of the exhibition.
His work is part of the movement of the British Private Press at the end of the 19th century who refuse the notion of merchandising and strive to return to the materiality of books in a semi-artisanal approach.
Clémence Billault and Cyril Gay, its founders, publish at the rate of ten titles a year texts flirting between true stories and stories of exploration: “the form embraces the text, they are engaged books, stories from all over the world, social frescoes, adventures in everyday life, we will take an interest in the human being and start from an individual path before entering universalism.” Guillaume Guilpart, author of the book, engraver and typographer, makes and prints all the cover illustrations of the Marchialy editions. He brings his graphic universe to make each book unique as the story it contains.
The exhibition will feature works by Marchialy editions, illustrations drawn separately in linocuts, custom-made typographies: where the entire graphic chain will be reconstructed. Mathilde Gullaud, independent designer and exhibition designer, has a sensitive approach to materials, and will propose a reading that will enhance the beauty of the object in space.
As part of the European Heritage Days, a guided tour of the exhibition "Marchialy, open book" by the scenographer Mathilde Gullaud will be offered to the public free of charge and without reservation on Sunday 18 September from 2pm, at the Geo-Charles Museum.
