Ville de Cusset

A true guardian of the history of Cusset, the Museum of the Prisoner Tower offers, through the diversity of its collections, to discover the history and urban evolution of the ancient medieval city to the modern city. Open house.
This site museum offers a particular setting for visits since it is deployed within the very last artillery tower from the fortifications built in the fifteenth century on the command of Louis XI. It is a true immersion in the Middle Ages and in the art of war that is offered to visitors walking through the gates of the last guardian of the city.

The museum is located in the only tower still in elevation of the fortifications built at the request of King Louis XI between 1476 and 1483 by the architect Vauzy de Saint Martin. The underground tunnels are the remains of the gates of these ramparts that protected the city.
