Delimited on the West by the valley of the Allier and in the East by the mounts of Livradois, it represents one of the richest and the most manifold oak groves of Auvergne around oaks, charm and around lindens. Very rich in a floral point of view (martagon lily, superb carnation(eyelet), orchids, wiry geranium), the forest is it also from a faunistique point of view with a zone of refuge for the big(great) wildlife (roe deers and boars), a space of nidification for the birds (royal Milan(kite)) or else a place of shelter for the batrachian such as the yellow-bellied bell-ringer, rare sort(species) in France and threatened in Europe. It is as well in the forest of County that draw up an inventory of the oldest volcanic whole department one. The history(story) known for the forest goes back up(raises) to the XIIIth century; since famous owners followed one another.
