Exposure

Standing - Zohreh Zavareh

Resonance Biennale d'art contemporain de Lyon 2022 Exhibition from September 17 to November 19, 2022 Opening Saturday, September 17 at 11am.
Zohreh Zavareh creates both with words and words and in the making of images and forms. She borrowed from the theatre the method of scriptwriting, scenery and direction. Her eclectic practice finds its unity in the situation she chooses to present in each of her exhibitions. In space, all the elements are linked by a narrative, imagined by the artist to intrigue his audience, play with his feelings and his interpretation. The visitor thus plunges into a poetic and suspended universe, populated by objects — sometimes familiar, sometimes enigmatic — with reassuring signs or benevolent mantras. The volumes, often at the scale of the palm of our hand, come alive in contact with the gaze or gesture of the visitor. In this discreet and fragile universe, the artist puts into perspective the roles attributed to the living and the inert, to conscious beings and inanimate things.
_To hold down is a project that arises in the will to present an ambiguous and exotic condition where the objects are the characters and where the bodies blend into the scenery. The title suggests the effort to stand on one’s feet, to resist and also—in its figurative meaning—qualifies an assertion, a logical and valid reasoning, which can nevertheless tip into nonsense. It will therefore be a question of absurdity and truth, of physical strength and action, but also of mental state and meditative withdrawal. The works of the artist will compose a sensitive and delicate journey whose details are discovered with patience and attention and where the visitor is invited to pose and interact with the proposed scenario. The exhibition will be built as an intimate narrative where the setting in space will channel our feelings and our action will give life to unexpected characters.
Exhibition following the artist’s residency with the reverse slopes in 2021.

About the location

La Halle, centre d'art contemporain
place de la Halle, 38680, Pont-en-Royans
  • Isère
  • Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Created in 1986, within the Vercors Natural Park, the Halle has a double nature: the same place hosts both an art centre and a media library. This creates an original and fruitful synergy that is at the origin of many encounters and transversality.
The building, located on the site of the heritage listed hanging houses, was established on the former location of the market halls. They were destroyed during the Second World War, but the site took over this historic name. Today, the Halle is a unique and atypical place, built between rock and water.
The Art Centre: Since its foundation, the Halle has presented demanding and quality exhibitions, in terms of diversity of media, intellectual approaches and generations of artists. A space dedicated to contemporary art, the art centre is part of a dynamic of support for creation and experimentation. The programming is varied: it alternates collective exhibitions with monographs or specific projects. The exhibitions are spread over three halls
