Envisaged during a stay of Victor-Amédée III in 1775, the foreground of the old(former) bishop's palace is raised(drawn up) by the Piedmontese architect, Giuseppe Battista Piacenza (1735-1818), to whom they owe the decoration of the chorus(choir) of the cathedral Saint-Peter, made by 1780\. The first project is returned to more modest proportions. Works are confided(entrusted) to Charles Gallo, architect established in Annecy. Neoclassical architecture. This construction draws inspiration from the neoclassical style, developed then in Turin, capital of the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. The reshaping of the district. The construction of the palace pulled(entailed) a reshaping of the district. The old(former) convent of the Cordeliers and its appendices are destroyed, of which the «small house» thought of Boëge, occupied between 1728 and 1730 by madam de Warens and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The golden baluster. Jean-Jacques Rousseau gets acquainted with madam de Warens, on March 21st, 1728\. In Confessions, he expresses wish that a «golden baluster» marks the place of meeting. A small monument is raised(brought up) for the second centenarian(centenary) of event in 1928.
