The collections of the museum gather for the most part discoveries made in the Clermont basin and, more broadly, the department of Puy-de-Dôme. Their presentation allows to sketch the history of the societies that succeeded each other in Lower Auvergne from the elements of material culture brought to light during the archaeological excavations.
The exhibition route is organized chronologically. He deals with prehistory (Palaeolithic, Neolithic), protohistory (Bronze Age, Iron Age) and Gallo-Roman Antiquity. For each period, focus groups highlight the emblematic sites of the territory. Some themes, essential to the understanding of different cultures (beliefs, funeral rites, techniques...) also mark the journey.
