Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Entscheidung getroffen, die Krankenhäuser von Grenoble in die Gemeinde La Tronche zu verlegen. Zur Aufnahme von Kranken und Verletzten aus Zivil und Militär wurden mehrere Pavillons errichtet: das Altersheim, die Sanatorien, das Militärkrankenhaus und das Zivilkrankenhaus.
