At your own pace, discover the history of Pirou Castle, from its construction in the 12th century to the present day. During your visit you will be guided by explanatory panels. A signposted route allows you to move around the castle. You can visit several rooms such as the Plaids room where the "second tapestry" is exhibited. This embroidery in Bayeux stitch, was made by Thérèse Ozenne from 1976 to 1992. It tells the story of the Normans who went to southern Italy and Sicily in the 11th century, as well as the legend of the geese of Pirou, famous legend of the Cotentin. Enter the fortress and visit the interior, unfurnished, of the old house from where a staircase will lead you to the ramparts of the castle to conclude your visit. Château de Pirou Normandie Tourism

Head - of work of medieval military architecture, travel(browse) one of the most old(former) very Norman castles, among the best keeping(preserving) thanks to the remarkable restoration(catering) initiated since 1966, at the instigation of the abbot Marcel Lelégard (1925-1994) and pursued by Foundation Abbey of Lucerne. Built in the XIIth century s. on an artificial island the castle, endowed with high ramparts is surrounded with three staves(moats) and with five strengthened doors. The tapestry of Pirou, embroidery on linen, relates the conquest of Italy of the South by Normans. Finally, the very old legend of the Gooses of Pirou evokes the transformation of the inhabitants of the castle in gooses.
A knight of Pirou participated in the Conquest of England and received a domain in Somerset where his family based(established) Stoke-Pero. Further to the seats of Hundred Years' War, the fortified castle was restored in the XVth, XVIIth and XVIIIth century.
