About the location

Château et ferme de Dumphlun
Dumphlun, 58270 Billy-Chevannes
  • Nièvre
  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
The site of Dumphlun, overlooking the Andarge valley, has been occupied for a long time, as evidenced by its name of Celtic origin: “Dun” indicates a fortified enclosure and “flun” a river.
After the fighting of the Hundred Years War, the current castle is erected with a body of lodgings of the Renaissance which will be developed and reworked, in the eighteenth century. Dumphlun has seen a succession of families that have marked the history of the Nivernais, including the families of Anlezy, La Perrière and Rémigny.
In the 18th century, a monumental farm is also built in Dumphlun, typical of the "ornate farms" appearing at that time in France. Great efforts are now being made to launch an operation to rescue and restore this farm, which has just been recognized as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture, forty years after the castle itself. The site offers a beautiful view of the bocages and forests of Amognes.
