Montfroc is a village of 80 inhabitants, located in the Drôme Provençale on the border of the Alpes de Haute Provence 30 km west of Sisteron. First consecrated to Saint-Gervais, the village church passed, in 1772, under the patronage of Saint-Clair, patron saint of the blind. This change was decided by the bishop of Sisteron and the parish priest of Montfroc to please Françoise de Lériger la Faye, wife of Count Lucretius Henri, François Charles de la Tour-du-Pin, lord of Montfroc and native of Saint Clair sur Rhône. Whatever our relationship to the Catholic religion, a church is more than a building intended for worship. It is the symbol of the gathering of a community and its history. In Montfroc, the church of Saint-Clair does not escape this observation. Nestled on a hillside, it refers to the history of the village.
