A Protestant community has been established since the beginning of the 16th century in the village of Chêne Guérin with its temple and cemeteries. The parish church of Margueray, very close to the temple, was moved at this time. The temple was later destroyed, the Protestant community being forced into hiding or exile; some names of villages still testify to the secret gatherings. The 19th century opened a new era. The Protestants decided to build new buildings in the village of Neufbourg and Brunetière and the commune created for them a reserved cemetery.
