Exhibition "Colette L'intrépide" - Season 4
The Museum of Modern Art Richard Anacréon (MamRA) presents the collection of bibliophilia and paintings of the bookseller and passionate art lover, Richard Anacréon (1907-1992). Born in Granville, he opened a bookshop, L'Originale, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, 22 rue de Seine. This shop became a must-see for many artists and writers from 1943 to 1959, including the famous author Colette (1873-1954), with whom he became friends and corresponded regularly. Renovated in 2019, the room dedicated to the famous author offers a new reading of the MamRA’s Colette fonds. Fruit of his great friendship with Richard Anacréon, it is the most important ensemble of the museum. This new part of the exhibition-dossier Colette L'intrépide is to be discovered in the rooms dedicated to this leading author of the MamRA collections, through a renewed presentation of books, manuscripts, correspondence and original works. The themes proposed for this new section are concerned with the influence of Sido, his mother, and nature in his work, The Twenties and Literary Glory, not to mention the dark years of the Occupation and his retirement at the Palais-Royal.
