The Musée des Moulages, a university museum, is an educational and scientific tool. It is both a historical testimony of the teaching of archaeology and of ancient and medieval art since the end of the nineteenth century and an actor of the cultural life of the University Paul-Valéry thanks to the exhibitions and events that are regularly organized there. On the occasion of its 130 years, creation of a «Cabinet d'Antiques» for the exhibition of a large repository of works from the Louvre Museum.

This educational university museum was created in 1890 with the aim of preserving and exhibiting the study collections related to the teaching of Archaeology (plaster prints of sculpture elements, original antique objects, photographic fonds). The purchase, in 1904, of the collection of mouldings of Canon Didelot of Valencia allowed to expand the historical periods presented and to introduce medieval art. The museum, which has followed the successive movements of the Faculty of Letters, was installed in the 1960s in a building specially designed for this purpose, located in the heart of the new University Paul-Valéry. The Historical Monuments classification of the Castings collection has confirmed its historical and heritage value, especially since it is a university museum that is unique in France today.
