Biscarrosse - Anciens logements du Centre d’essais des Landes

In 1962, as part of the development of the French deterrent force, the Government set up the «Centre d'Essais des Landes» (CEL, now DGA EM), between Biscarrosse and Mimizan, facing the ocean, in order to transfer the missile testing centers located up tothere in Algeria. As a result, an influx of workers charged with studying these new weapons converged on Biscarrosse and the military authorities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction, decided on 7 February 1964 to create a Priority Urbanization Area (ZUP) in Biscarrosse.
The chief architects of the ZUP of Biscarrosse are Georges Johannet and Jean Marty. They coordinate the work of several other architects such as Aquitaine Architectes Associés by André Gresy and Jean-Raphaël Hébrard. In total, the village of Biscarrosse gained 1,230 dwellings, 860 of which were for the CEL and the population doubled in a few years, increasing to 7,159 in 1968\. These new dwellings are built in the image of the large sets of bars and tower
