Élie Halévy had the White House built in 1911 in the domain of Haute-Maison, property of his father, Ludovic Halévy, man of letters of the nineteenth century. Elijah lived there with his wife, Florence, until 1937.

Built in 1911 in the outbuildings of the High House (now Sucy Town Hall), the White House housed Elijah and Florence Halévy. It was in this place that Elijah realized the bulk of his historical work on the history of socialism and England in the 19th century.
