Visit of the Vitry-sur-Seine Briqueterie - Centre de Développement Chorégraphique National du Val-de-Marne
The chimney and the brick building that once housed the kilns and dryers are the remains of a vast industrial site: the Gournay brickworks. Productive activity stopped in 1966 and many abandoned buildings were gradually demolished. Having become the owner of this interesting witness of industrial heritage, the Departmental Council decided in 2003 to transform this abandoned building into a cultural place dedicated to contemporary dance. The rehabilitation project, entrusted to the architect Philippe Prost, reinvents a new life for the places, highlighting the old structures and integrating contemporary spaces. Inaugurated in March 2013, «La Briqueterie» offers a striking interpretation of the possible transformations of built heritage.
The missions of the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique National du Val-de-Marne revolve around three axes: support for choreographic creation, the diffusion of performances (in the framework of Excentriques or the Biennale de danse du Val de Marne in particular), and the setting up of cultural actions and artistic education courses for various audiences.
A unique place of art and history, the Briqueterie has breath and opens its doors, its garden and its dance studios!
The tour will be guided by Sophie TESSANDIER, architect at the CAUE du Val-de-Marne and Anaïs Hamard or Arina Dolgikh, from Briqueterie.
