The nineteenth century saw the emergence of prehistoric sciences, but it was not until the 1910s that France had the first permanent research center in the world dedicated to the study of the origins of man: the Institute of Human Paleontology-Prince Albert I of Monaco Foundation. The building of this institute, built between 1912 and 1914, is the work of Emmanuel Pontremoli (1865-1956), Grand Prix of Rome (1890), "inventor" of the Villa Kérylos, architect of the National Museum of Natural History (1904-1921) and director of the National School of Fine Artsarts (1932-1938). On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the IPH Foundation offers conferences and an exceptional visit to a place usually closed to the public.
