Jules Bastien-Lepage Museum:

Jules Bastien-Lepage was a painter from the Meuse. He was born in 1848 in Damvillers, a small rural village not far from Montmédy. He died early in 1884, at the age of 36, in Paris. He acquired a great reputation in the worldly places of Paris, by the quality of his portraits and placed himself at the forefront of his time. He was also known for his large canvases, featuring the peasants of his village in their activities. Thus the Hay and Season of October, are among its greatest masterpieces.

Museum of the Fortification:

Since time immemorial, Montmédy and its region have been zones of invasions and passages. Indeed, from a geological point of view, the plain of the Woëvre, framed by the coasts of Meuse, forms a natural corridor facilitating the passage of invaders from northern and eastern Europe. This situation led to the constant need for the region to protect itself from looting and to defend itself. The museum proposes to retrace, in a very pedagogical way, the evolution of the fortification in the Meuse.
