Discover the embroidered woven tales mixed with sacred and beauty in the exhibition «De Soie et d'Or».

Since the dawn of time, the symbolism of weaving and spinning is strongly linked to speech. Everywhere, the myths speak of thread, spinners and their accessories: cattails, spindles, needles… In a constant back-and-forth, if the sounds weave together to give meaning, the threads cross to form the fabric. This is how the fabric can become verb, and the verb can become fabric. «May my tales be beautiful and unfold like a long thread».

The collections of the sacred art museum of Saint-Mihiel consist of ornaments and furniture liturgical, of which the exceptional whole silver the from XIIIth centuries till XXth centuries, and sculptures. A collection of «dressed wax» manifests of abundant of Lorraine production in the XVIIIth century. These refined objects were bound(connected) to devotion and to popular piety.
Thanks to a route(course) at once thematic and chronological, the visitor arrests different forms and functions(offices) of objects, as well as transformations of medieval liturgical practices in the second half of the XXth century.
