Concrete is one of the building materials of the French architectural heritage. France has more than 800 concrete buildings protected as historical monuments. Widely used since the end of the 19th century, concrete is used both for industrial sites (former steel plant of Uckange), civil housing (Mercy Castle in Ars-Laquenexy), works of art (inclined plan of Saint-Louis Arzviller) only for religious buildings (Sainte-Thérèse de Metz Church).

Located between the Moselle and Moselle side canals, the Vandières quarry produces aggregates that feed the construction sites. It contributes to the planning of the territory as well as to the construction, maintenance and renovation of the heritage that surrounds us: works of art, building, road… The aggregates have been processed on site since the late 1970s and a branch on the canal makes it possible to deliver certain customers by substituting the trucks by river.
The extraction leaves room for a mosaic of terrestrial, water or wet environments that the operator gradually creates to optimize the reception of biodiversity: reed beds, floodable meadows, gravel islets… as many environments that the avifauna particularly likes.
