Discovery tour accompanied by the castle of Germolles
In 1380 the Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi, acquired for his wife, Marguerite de Flandre, the fortified house of Germolles. The duchess transforms it into a luxurious residence where work the best artists of the Burgundian school (Claus Sluter, Jean de Beaumetz). The visit makes it possible to discover the cellar, the lower chapel and the entry towers, remains of the primitive fortress, the hall of honor, the chapel and the ducal apartments. Painted or carved decorations and pavement tiles testify to the quality of the place. The hamlet that precedes the castle and an English-style park designed in the 19th century complete the site. Germolles is not only one of the few French palatial and princely residences of this period, but also the only pleasure home of the Dukes of Burgundy widely preserved.
