Built by the monks de Cluny, the church of Chânes is mentioned towards 1100 in a charter of Bérard. His(Her,Its) nave, part(party) the most old(former) date of the Xth century. Its elegant octagonal bell tower dates the XIIth century for first two floors. It is between 1847 and 1855 when he(it) was raised(enhanced) and when the arrow was built. It is also in 1847 when the coverage(cover) of the nave in lavas was replaced with flat tiles, and the culminated inside. The building stayed in the state until 1986\. In this year, noticing important tracks of humidity in the ceiling of the transept, fissures in the walls of the nave, the municipality made realise the study of the repairing and the preservation of the church, by respecting its origin. Works began in 1987: it was a question of replacing with inlaying faulty stones of the base(basis) of the bell tower to assure(insure) waterproofness. In 1995: repair of the roofing of the turret sheltering the staircase of access to the bell tower. In 2000: replacement of lavas on the roofing of the transept, the couvertines of walls under the bell tower. Then in 2007: restoration(catering) of the nave, revision of the skeleton in oak, demolition of the ceiling in plaster, construction of a footbridge of access to the bell tower, pose(installation) of a coverage(cover) in lavas, return(restoration) of a small Romance window on the facade in pine nut(cog), restoration(catering) of the decoration(set) of arcatures and lombardic bands(strips) underlined by a toothed horizontal band(strip). It is this important phase of work which allowed the municipality to take away(gain) the competition(help) of the "Ribbons(Tapes) of Heritage 2009". In 2017, a new phase of work was studied; the first phase was realised on urgent and essential repairs: tiled roofs channel(canal) of the side chapels and of the sacristy, the separation of the floor and of the belfry which weakened the structure of the church. The pursuit(continuation) of restorations(caterings) will concern works of purification and of repair of the internal facing, and of electricity.
