In 1988 this «marsh» was a field of beets, it is a totally human creation whose idea and sketch were born in 1989 from the will and commitment of Lionel Feuillas – at the time ornithologist- bagueur Muséum d'histoire naturelle, Jean-Sébastien Gascuel a farmer in the commune of Gerzat who worked on the plot and Philippe Bonnefont, a municipal councillor under the mandate of Jacques Decorps, Mayor.
To summarize the planting in 1990 of poplars for half, other species and shrub strata for the rest…. Signing of a management agreement between Gerzat Town Hall and Auvergne Bird Protection League, the site was followed, especially by Alain and Michèle Chareyron Gerzatois and active members of the LPO (League for the protection of birds).
Then, over time, creation of ponds, observatory, ecological improvements, reed beds, etc. This marsh, located in the north of our municipality (on 4 hectares), is today one of the rare wildlife refuge areas in this sector of the Limagne.
Since 1995, aware of the interest of this natural site, the LPO Auvergne (League for the Protection of Birds) with the help of the municipality, has invested in the restoration of a wetland.
The Lambre marsh has been labeled Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) d'Initiative Locale by the Conseil départemental du Puy-de-Dôme since October 2009.

In medieval times, the village of Gerzat was surrounded by circular walls reinforced by 9 towers each bearing the name of the family that guarded it. The enclosure was lined with ditches fed by Bédat Creek. Fish were so abundant that fishing was regulated. In the 13th century, the suburbs developed, followed by large estates in the countryside. One of the most important was that of «Donas vignas», or the vineyard of the Lady (today Donnavignat).
