The architecture and decoration of the Chapel of Our Lady of Jerusalem were designed by Jean Cocteau the year of his death in 1963. Most of the site’s iconography illustrates the themes of Christ’s Passion and Resurrection. Nevertheless, Jean Cocteau has incorporated a sometimes hermetic symbolism that makes Notre-Dame-de-Jewish a work with a complex interpretation. Although completed after the poet’s death, the aesthetics and message of the building remain faithful to the graphic style and approach of the artist.
