Moulin cavier de la Guénaudière
La Guénaudière, Grez-en-Bouère, 53290
Raised at the beginning of XIX°, this windmill is the only one in Mayenne to belong to the type of «cavier mills», very common in Maine-et-Loire (see Mozé, la Bigottière). Its superstructures, very damaged, were restored between 1983 and 1988\. The principle of operation of the cavier mill is based on the dissociation of the engine element (wings and transmission shaft) placed at the top and the wheels, placed at the bottom, in the «mass». Hence the characteristic silhouette consisting of a base (vaulted cellar in load piles), a masonry cone (here in rubble) intended to enhance a cabin of wood, or hucherolle, supporting the wings (here in oak with canopies of pine of Oregon) and containing shafts and transmission gears, all of wood.
