The Association de sauvegarde de l'Église d'Ailly sur Noye offers a guided tour on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September from 2 pm to 6 pm.
St Martin’s Church was built at the end of the 19th century on the plan of the Amienois architect, Paul DELEFORTERIE (1843-1910). The laying of the first stone was blessed in 1893 and the building completed in 1896. Characteristic of the eclectic style, it mixes Romanesque and Gothic art. It was a very ambitious project and remarkable for its location on the heights of the commune and its bell tower placed out of work in a lateral position in the axis of the main street which gives it a special status in the cult work of the architect.
The facades use the polychrome resulting from the marriage of red and white bricks of Gannes and the limestone of St Maximin. The vaults soar more than 20 m high. The light and very high arrow mark its silhouette the surrounding countryside. The Amienois artist Gérard ANSART (1903-1991) created the boxes of 11 glass windows that were made by Jean-Marie MACRON master glassmaker at the Atelier CAGNARD. In 1924, the large organ was commissioned from the Van der Brande House in Amiens.
