The Villa Majorelle - or Villa Jika, according to the initials of the wife of Louis Majorelle, Jeanne Kretz-is built in 1901-1902 by the architect Henry Sauvage (1873-1932) in 1898, for one of the masters(teachers) of the School of Nancy, the cabinet maker and draftsman Louis Majorelle. First house entirely Art nouveau of Nancy, she results from a perfect collaboration between Parisian artists and renowned inhabitants of Nancy. She still manifests, both in her external architecture and in her interior design, the notion of unity(unit) of art advocated by numerous artists of time(period). The building includes the Iconic Houses network which lists the emblematic modern architectures of their time(period) and also represents the City of Nancy within the Network Art nouveau Network which promotes and heritage European Art nouveau. She(It) is listed(classified) among historic monuments in 1996.
