On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the death of Youen Durand, in partnership with the town hall of Plobannalec-Lesconil, the association Les Amis de Youen Durand organizes the exhibition of paintings "Youen Durand invites Raymonde Dohin".
Youen Durand (1922 – 2005), the child of Lesconil (Finistère), the wonderful artist of unique seashell paintings in the world, all made where he lived and directed the auction for more than thirty years, returns this summer as at home at Semaphore. Facing the ocean that he loved so much, in an exceptional site, this municipal space hosts from August 24 to September 20 a selection of his most beautiful paintings.
In this period where travel out of the country is limited to the possible, Youen Durand’s paintings will offer visitors the opportunity to cross the borders of a wonderful world.
With shells assembled by infinite care, Youen Durand has created a people of fascinating characters and animals, real or imaginary, in full harmony, rooted in a timeless and universal Brittany.
In this enchantment, visitors will discover a unique artist in our region, Raymonde Dohin (1926 – 2018), who has also created seashells paintings, decorated with scales and fish skins, true jewels of goldsmithery with pearly floral motifs, composed with such delicacy and sincerity that they seem to engage in dialogue with the attractive work of Youen Durand, always turned towards the unusual.
The association Les Amis de Youen Durand thanks the town hall of Plobannalec-Lesconil, owner of the municipal collection bequeathed by the artist, for allowing it to organize the exhibition «Youen Durand invites Raymonde Dohin», at the best time of year for residents and visitors to its territory.

The Semaphore of Lesconil is a former semaphore of the National Navy, bought by the municipality of Plobannalec-Lesconil in the early 2000s, converted into a temporary exhibition site in the summer and entrusted to cultural associations for the rest of the year.
It was in the eighteenth century that a first guard post was built on the highest dune of the Palue, opposite the point of Goudoul. The first semaphore was commissioned in 1806 but the construction of the current semaphore dates back to 1860\. The semaphore monitored the coast from Penmarc'h to Loctudy, the rescuers who witnessed the numerous shipwrecks working in collaboration with the harbour lifeboat. They sounded the alarm with a small alarm gun and used a mooring gun to establish a back and forth between the wrecked boat and the land.
The other role of semaphore was to provide mariners with an overview of the weather. To do this, the spotters hoisted black cones at the top of the mainmast which were called «pochoù an amzer
