Discovery of the church of Sainte-Marie de Jaillans
This year, on Saturday from 2 pm to 3 pm, a guide of the Agglo will be present for a very interesting and free guided tour. The rest of the weekend will be free.
Quick Description:
Former church of a Benedictine priory dependent on the abbey of Montmajour, mentioned for the first time in 1118. It consists of a nave of four bays vaulted in barrel, a choir covered with a dome on trumpets supporting the bell tower on three levels, and an apse in cul-de-four of the 2nd half of the twelfth century. It also has beautiful historical capitals and a tribune with pillars decorated with 14th century bas-reliefs. Listed as a Historic Monument, this beautiful church was completely restored by Joannis Rey in 1897 and then during a more recent restoration program between 1998 and 2002.
