Lycée Georges-Sand
Boulevard Pierre de Coubertin, 47600 Nérac
- Lot-et-Garonne
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Conceived(Designed) at the beginning of 1960s by the architect Jacques Pompey, very active in Agen in the second half of the XXth century, the Henri-de-Navarre middle school and the George-Sand high school of Nérac present four bars covered in roof - terraces and organised around a central court(yard) endowed with green areas. These buildings(ships) reveal the architectural transfers(transformations) of postwar years where speed, standards, concrete, prefabrication, system post-beam and functionalism govern school constructions from now on. In 1964, four works (a panel(sign) of tiles(window panes) there washes enamelled, two paintings(paints) and a sculpture), realised by confirmed artists, are included into the establishment, in conformance with(for) the 1% for arts. Implanted in the north periphery(outskirts) of Nérac, between the plain of sports, endowed with a swimming pool in 1961, and the housing estate arranged by the Beavers, then just ended, the school city(estate) also manifests the history(story) of the contemporary transformations of the city.
