About the location

Château de Groussay
Rue de Versailles 78490 Montfort l'Amaury
  • Yvelines
  • Île-de-France
The castle of Groussay was built in 1815 for the Duchess of Charost, the daughter of Madame de Tourzel, governess of the children of King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. Purchased in 1938 by Charles de Beistegui, an inspired aesthete, Groussay expanded in 1952 with two wings, one of which led to the theatre and "Folies" or factories designed with the complicity of artists Emilio Terry and Alexandre Serebriakoff and architects Desbrosses and Costi. The transformation of the castle and the creation of "factories" continued until the death of Charles de Beistegui in 1970\. The complex has been classified as a historical monument since 1993\. Since 2015, the association Patrimoine Aventure has revived this magical place through the various events set up to preserve it.
