This building, owned by the City of Paris, is classified as a historical monument: the church was built from 1621 by Cardinal de Bérulle, founder of the Congregation of Priests of the Oratory. Louis XIII made it the royal chapel of the Louvre Palace in 1623\. Napoleon made it available to the Protestants of Paris in 1811\. The chair is from the period, Bossuet and Malebranche in particular preached there. The drum and stalls come from the Saint-Louis du Louvre church and were integrated into the Oratory when they converted it into a Protestant temple. The large organs were rebuilt in 1960\. At 160 rue de Rivoli, at the side of the church, stands the monument of Admiral Gaspard de Coligny, who died during the massacre of Saint Barthélemy in 1572; this monumental marble statue of Carrara was erected in 1889 for the centenary of the Revolution.
