Institut Européen d'écologie
1-3 rue des Récollets 57000 Metz
The European Institute of Ecology is a French association whose objective is to promote and develop any initiative aimed at improving the quality of life, the environment and the relationships between people, groups and nature. It is located within the Cloister of the Recollets of Metz. It was founded in the third century by a small group of Franciscan religious, called “cordeliers”, who undertook the construction of their convent near the Roman wall. After a major renovation in 1972, the European Institute of Ecology settled there under the impetus of Jean-Marie Pelt, Roger Klaine and Jean-Marie Rausch. That same year, on March 23, 1972, part of the buildings was classified as historical monuments (cloister, gallery, elevation and roof).
