Château de Chiré-en-Montreuil

The castle is built in the confluence of Auxances and of Vendelogne, in the highest point of the village, rocky spur dominating both valleys. An important source(spring) flows(sinks) in its feet, it is quoted under the name of "Fontaine Arbault" in a text of 1620\. At origin: a feudal castle with defensive purpose without opening outside, apart from the door of the châtelet. Openings are arranged in Renaissance, very fast reclusive at the time of the wars of religions following which the castle is decapitated. The Lord de Chiré makes restore the remaining walls to have Jacques a more comfortable returned house at the time of (XVIIth century). Left neglected since 1974, the castle is bought by the municipality in 1992\. Works of protection(saving) are then begun(undertaken).
