Rebuilt by a single jet from 1498 by the bishop Armand of Gontaut-Biron, the castle of Awnings offers a rare evidence of a residence to the campaign(countryside) of a périgourdin prelate under the reign of Louis XII and of Anne of Brittany. Isolated in the valley of Couze, the house had to assure(insure) at once the defence of the occupants, offer them a comfortable, luxurious environment, opened on ambient nature, and express the distinguished social status of the owner. Visit suggests discovering how the architect of Gontaut-Biron managed to answer in this triple stakes, scooping(drawing) out his(her) forms from pure tradition or, on the contrary, innovating in a complex and balanced composition of volumes and in forms of the late Flamboyant Gothic.
