Guided tour of the site of Alauna, Roman thermal baths
Old(Former) Gallic city(estate) of the people of Unelles, Valognes becomes in the 1st century of our era a Roman town(conglomeration), on the road of the tin leading towards the British islands. This city, named(appointed) Alauna, extended around the current parish of Alleaume and beyond towards the municipalities of Huberville and of Lieusaint. She(It) possessed important civil buildings, among which remain(subsist) today the imposing ruins of thermal baths and the location of a theatre of more than 3000 places(squares). The impressive vestiges of thermal baths, raised(brought up) to the 1st century of our era, testify importance that Valognes in the roman time possessed. Conceived(Designed) on a symmetrical plan, the building possessed about ten rooms, among which an étuve, a hot swimming pool and a cold swimming pool. Masonries are kept(preserved) in elevation on a dozen metres and show a well-manicured implementation, associating meeting of small cubic stony blocks and beds of bricks.
