The belfry of Abbeville is one of the most old(former) of France: his(her, its) construction begins at the beginning of the XIIIth century. He asserts(affirms) at that time the independence of the city(estate) facing manorial and religious powers and represents communal power. Having been the heart of the town hall of Abbeville during several centuries, touched by the bombardments of May, 1940, it is included into the reconstruction of the museum Boucher-de-Perthes in 1954.
He(It) is registered in conformance with(for) Historic monuments since 1926 and on the UNESCO world heritage since 2005 in the serial good(property) of the “Belfries of Belgium and of France”. Commented visits are regularly organised during season.
Nearby, you can discover the belfries of Street and of Saint-Riquier.
Visits are made on registration(inscription) in the welcome(reception) of the museum. They are limited to 15 visitors by group and the children under age 12 must be accompanied with an adult.
